Compton Acres is a privately owned garden estate at 164 Canford Cliffs Road, Poole, with more than ten acres of ornamental gardens. Created in 1920 by Thomas Simpson on Dorset heathland, working with head gardener Mr Middleton, it is recognised as one of the most important ornamental gardens in England. Five distinct themed gardens, the Italian Gardens, the Wooded Valley, the Rock and Water Gardens, the Heather Garden and the Japanese Garden, are linked by an easy circular route with subtropical and Southern Hemisphere planting. The site also has a cafe, plant centre and gift shops.
