The Ringwood Society was formed in 1962 to protect Ringwood's unique character, believing the town's historic buildings deserve to be protected. It shares the town's heritage through exhibitions and talks, works to enhance and restore areas of historic interest such as the Fridays Cross painted sign, and provides expert opinion on planning applications within the Conservation Area alongside New Forest District Council and Ringwood Town Council. It runs a blue plaque scheme, an awards scheme and the Ringwood Town Trail, and holds an annual general meeting, talks and a social event each year.
